Microgrid System Design, Control, and Modeling Challenges and Solutions
June 12, 2019 • 11:00 am (PDT)
Duration: 60 min
Upcoming webinar

Additional Information:
Microgrids commonly include a high percentage of renewable energy power supplies, such as photovoltaic (PV) and wind generation. These systems often have problems related to their low system inertia and the intrinsic limitations of power electronic sources. This webinar will address these issues and our experiences in designing, installing, and testing microgrid control systems. We will discuss islanding detection and resynchronization and the specifics of microgrid power management. We will also cover hardware-in-the-loop testing and its impact on quality and best practices for networking and cybersecurity.

Effective Migration to Converged IT/OT Networks
Date held: January 17, 2018
Recorded webinar

Additional Information:

For years, many utilities have managed two communications networks: one based on time-division multiplexing (TDM) and tuned for the demanding requirements of operational technology (OT) applications and a second for information technology (IT). With the advent of high-bandwidth packet-based technologies, such as Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Carrier Ethernet, there is a push to move toward a converged network model to increase the efficiency of assets.

New Eyes for Distribution Make Protection Faster and Smarter
Date held: August 30, 2017
Recorded webinar

Additional Information:

Historically, distribution protection relied on coordination delays to trip the correct line during a fault. New technology now allows us to determine the location of a fault on a distribution feeder fast enough to actually influence protection decisions while the fault is happening. This gives us the opportunity to eliminate many of these delays and trip distribution systems faster and more effectively.
