Applying the SEL-487E for Centralized Protection and Control

Date held: Wednesday, April 13, 2022
Duration: 1 hour

New distance elements in the SEL-487E Transformer Protection Relay enable you to consolidate your line, transformer, and feeder protection into a single device for centralized protection and control (CPC).

In this webinar, presenter Scott Wenke will discuss the recent additions to the SEL-487E and the full range of benefits they offer, including:

  • Flexibility to provide line or transformer protection with the new distance elements.
  • Reduced hardware requirements and simplified maintenance from consolidating multiple zones of protection in CPC applications.
  • Additional flexibility to apply conventional relays or digital secondary system solutions with both Time-Domain Link (TiDL) and Sampled Values (SV) products in CPC schemes.

To further illustrate these points, we will explore a recent application of the SEL-487E within a CPC scheme for a distribution substation.
