The SEL-3390T Time and Ethernet Adapter is a PCI Express (PCIe) expansion card that adds precise time synchronization and distribution functionality to SEL computing platforms and Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTACs), including the SEL-3355, SEL-3360E, SEL-3555, and SEL-3560E. The SEL-3390T allows these devices to directly synchronize with IRIG-B sources or over Ethernet using the hardware time-stamped Precision Time Protocol (PTP). It provides two Ethernet ports, one BNC input, and one BNC output for IRIG-B so you can source time from IRIG-B and Ethernet devices. The SEL-3390T complies with the PCIe form-factor and can also be installed in other PCIe-compliant computers and controllers.
Substation Time Synchronization—Using the SEL-3390T protocol versatility, you can synchronize different types of IEDs and end devices within the substation. The SEL-3390T can synchronize via IRIG-B over serial ports or BNC ports, synchronize the time of a host computer from an outside source, and deliver the Network Time Protocol (NTP) to downstream network devices.
Precise Time Synchronization Over Ethernet—With Windows or Linux PTP clients, the SEL-3390T can convert the PTP from your WAN into IRIG-B format to synchronize IEDs that are not PTP-capable. This insulates your substation from GPS vulnerabilities or localized antenna failures.
Accurate Synchronization of Data Communications—Apply an SEL clock and the SEL-3390T with SEL-3355 or SEL-3360E computing platforms to distribute time and data signals using serial ports. With the SEL-3390T, you can use the SEL-3355 or SEL-3360E to serve time to the substation IEDs without sacrificing accuracy.

Time Management and Protocol Conversion—Provide complete time management for an SEL computing platform, such as the SEL-3355 or SEL-3555. The SEL-3390T universal time card is a PCIe card that sources time from either IRIG-B or IEEE 1588 PTP and can be used to distribute time to downstream devices using IRIG-B or NTP (if NTP is installed and operating on the computing platform). The SEL-3390T can provide IRIG-B to the SEL-3390S8 PCIe x1 Serial Expansion Card which, in turn, sends it to downstream serial-connected devices.
Network Interface—Expand networking with two fully functional 10/100/1000 Mb Ethernet interfaces available to the host. Choices of RJ45 (copper) and fiber-optic connections are available. Fiber-optic ports are enabled using SEL-provided small form-factor pluggable (SFP) modules, with the choice of multimode or single-mode fiber.
Reliability—Deploy in harsh substation environments. The SEL-3390T meets IEEE 1613, IEEE C37.90, and IEC 60255 protective relay standards. The card provides reliable operation from –40º to +75ºC (–40º to +167ºF) and is backed by SEL’s ten-year warranty and technical support.
Conformal Coating (Optional)—Protect circuitry from hazards, such as chemicals, vibration, moisture, salt spray, humidity, fungus, and corrosion, with this durable protective coating, extending the working life of the PCB and components.
