The SEL-3390S8 Serial Adapter Card is a PCI Express (PCIe) expansion card that is compatible with SEL-3355 and SEL-3360E computing platforms as well as SEL-3555 and SEL-3560E Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTACs). It has been designed, built, and tested for use in harsh industrial and substation environments, providing a wide operating temperature range and immunity to ESD, shock, and vibration. It can also be ordered with conformal coating for corrosion immunity. The SEL-3390S8 complies with the PCIe form-factor and can also be installed in other PCIe-compliant computers and controllers.
Add up to four SEL-3390S8 PCIe x1 industrial PCIe serial cards for an additional 24 software-configurable EIA-232/-422/-485 ports with RJ45 connector format. All ports meet EIA-/TIA-562 and are capable of 300 to 921600 bps with automatic flow control. Each port can be configured to provide +5 V power for powering modems or transceivers.
Synchronize the computer system clock to a GPS time source via a demodulated IRIG-B source using Port 1 or internally jumpered from another SEL-3390S8. Provide IRIG-B output to all ports on all SEL-3390S8 Serial Adapters in the computer system.
High-Speed Serial Ports
Communicate with serial devices using the six high-performance serial ports, capable of EIA-232, EIA-422, and EIA-485 signaling at data rates as high as 921 Kbps. Each port has full RTS/CTS and DTR/DSR signaling and true hardware flow control. Large buffers enable high throughput with minimum CPU loading.
+5 Vdc Port Power
Simplify cabling and eliminate external power supplies for devices, such as fiber-optic transceivers and modems, by powering them directly from the SEL-3390S8 Serial Adapter’s ports.
IRIG-B Time Synchronization
Synchronize the computer system clock to a demodulated IRIG-B source. Provide IRIG-B output to all ports on all SEL-3390S8 Serial Adapters in the computer system.
Conformal Coating (Optional)
Protect circuitry from hazards, such as chemicals, vibration, moisture, salt spray, humidity, fungus, and corrosion, with this durable protective coating, extending the working life of the PCB and components.
Apply in harsh substation environments. The SEL-3390S8 exceeds IEEE 1613, IEEE C37.90, and IEC 60255 protective relay standards. The card provides reliable operation from –40º to +85ºC (–40º to +185ºF) and is backed by SEL’s ten-year warranty and highly rated technical support.
