Routers
Routers forward data packets to and from different networks. In utility networks, routers are often used to create security perimeters around substation LANs.
Firewalls and Security Gateways
Firewalls and security gateways route traffic to other networks and create secure access paths through security perimeters. Both ensure that unauthorized traffic is blocked. Security gateways combine additional cybersecurity capabilities, such as password management.
