SEL recommends selecting the SEL-710-5 Motor Protection Relay or the SEL-849 Motor Management Relay in place of the SEL-749M. The SEL-710-5 protects a full range of medium-voltage, three-phase induction and synchronous motors and is available with a color touchscreen display. The SEL-849 protects low- or medium-voltage three-phase induction and variable-frequency drive-fed motors and can be easily installed inside a motor control center.
SEL will continue to support and warranty the SEL-749M.
Low- and Medium-Voltage Motor Protection—Protect low- and medium-voltage induction and synchronous motors. The reliable and economical SEL-749M also protects three-phase motors, including two-speed and reduced-voltage start motors.
Extensive Communications and Software—Communicate seamlessly with built-in SEL ASCII and optional Modbus protocols. Quickly and easily set the SEL-749M with the included Microsoft Windows-based acSELerator QuickSet SEL-5030 Software. View start reports, motor trends, and real-time motor values with the complete meter and control features included in acSELerator Software.
Comprehensive Start Reports and Trends—Track motor performance during the critical starting period with complete motor start reports and 30-day average motor start trending. Only SEL offers this valuable tool for tracking motor performance.
Option Cards for Added Functionality—Customize the relay for your particular protection and control applications. Field-install option cards into the base relay to obtain voltage-based protection/control, increased digital I/O, and 4–20 mA analog output.
Front-panel EIA-232 serial port
Default messages or up to 32 customizable display labels notify personnel of power system events or the relay status
2 × 16 character LCD provides navigation, relay control, data, and diagnostics
Programmable front-panel LEDs with user-configurable labels alert operators to faulted phases, the relay’s status, and element operation
Six-button keypad enables simple navigation for settings, status, and access to event reports
Secondary input current: 1 A phase or 5 A phase or 1 A neutral or 5 A neutral
3-phase ac voltage input; 300 Vac maximum
Optional I/O expansion: three digital inputs, four digital outputs, one 4–20 mA output
Optional communications card includes an EIA-485 port, an additional EIA-232 port, and the Modbus RTU protocol
Port options include demodulated IRIG-B for precise-time input or a PTC input to thermally monitor protected equipment
Power supply options include 125/250 Vdc/Vac or 24/48 Vdc/Vac. The relay also includes two digital inputs and three digital outputs.
True Temperature-Based Thermal Overload Protection
Eliminate false tripping, especially during cyclic overload operations. The release motor capability is unavailable with traditional overload relays.
Comprehensive Start Reports and Trends
Track motor performance during the critical starting period with complete motor start reports and 30-day average motor start trending. Only SEL offers this valuable tool for tracking motor performance.
Option Cards Add Functionality
Customize the relay to suit your particular protection and control applications with optional voltage, I/O, and communications cards.
Increase Operating Time by Using Complete Reporting
Troubleshoot motor/process problems using valuable, stored information about motors and processes from motor statistics, oscillograms, event reports, and sequential events records.
Extensive Communications and Software Capabilities
Communicate seamlessly with built-in SEL ASCII Fast Meter, Fast Operate, and Fast SER protocols, and EIA-232 as standard. Add optional Modbus protocol for connecting to your digital control system. Quickly and easily set the SEL-749M with the included Microsoft Windows-based acSELerator QuickSet SEL-5030 Software.
