SEL-3031
Serial Radio Transceiver
The SEL-3031 is a 915 MHz ISM serial data radio that supports point-to-point (P2P) and point-to-multipoint (P2MP) operational modes. In P2P mode, the SEL-3031 supports three serial data ports in one radio channel. The ports are completely independent and support a mix of protocols, including DNP3, Modbus, Mirrored Bits communications, SEL Fast Message, plain ASCII, and more. In P2MP mode, a one-channel master radio communicates with multiple remote radios for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) or other data-gathering applications. SEL Hop-Sync technology optimizes collocated radios applied as multiple point-to-point links or as active repeaters. The SEL-3031 is a low-power device using less than 5 W in the wall-mount version, allowing it to be incorporated into recloser controls, such as the SEL-651R. A standard 1 RU high rack mount version is also available, all backed up by SEL's worldwide, ten-year product warranty. SEL-3031 Accessories

Power Line Teleprotection
Apply communications-assisted teleprotection instead of local step-distance protection to accelerate the operation time of Zone 2 faults from 20–40 electrical cycles down to 2–4 cycles. Transfer control commands with a typical 5.5-millisecond latency with SEL Mirrored Bits communications.
Electrical Distribution Automation/Restoration
Quickly restore distribution service and improve system availability by using SEL-3031 Radios to communicate with recloser controls and other devices.
Independent Applications Via One Radio Link
Simultaneously communicate with up to three independent ports and protocols in (P2P) operation. A typical application is to set up one port for high-speed teleprotection or control, another for SCADA, and one for engineering access.
Distributed Generation Connection
Provide low-cost communications for anti-islanding applications between the electric utility network and the distributed generation site. Designate one of the other serial channels for electric utility SCADA and one for the independent power producer SCADA.
Security
Thwart eavesdropping and unauthorized control by installing an optional encryption card for session authentication and strong 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) technology.
Engineering Access
Maintain settings, retrieve oscillographic and sequential events reports, gather diagnostic or asset management data, and access other “nonoperational data” reports.
Electrical System Synchrophasors
Improve situational awareness and asset utilization with IEEE C37.118 synchrophasor measurement. Aggregate synchrophasor information from across your system to understand system trends, make decisions based on state measurement rather than state estimation, and aid in post event analysis.
Refinery and Plant Remote I/O
Monitor sites far from the main plant when it is not feasible to extend wired plant networks. Examples include water intake and discharge sites, cooling towers, and loading and storage facilities.
SCADA
Gather information and perform control with remote sites via SEL-3031 Radios operating in mode. Or, in P2P mode, where one channel is used for teleprotection or distribution automation, use another channel as either a multidrop SCADA link conveyed by P2P links or as a backup path for SCADA if a primary SCADA connection is out of service.
Collocated Radios
Implement highly available active repeaters and multiple radio links at master sites via SEL Hop-Sync technology. When there are multiple radios at the same site, the transmission from one radio can easily overpower the weaker signals (from up to 20 miles away) that a nearby radio is trying to receive. By synchronizing collocated radios so that they all transmit at the same time, none of these collocated radios will transmit while any are receiving signals.
