David W. Roop is currently a power industry consultant and was formerly the Director of Electric Transmission Operations in the Power Delivery Group of Dominion Energy. Mr. Roop previously managed Dominion Energy Virginia’s Electric Transmission organization and advised the corporation on technical issues until his retirement on January 1, 2020, after a 43-year career. He is an active member of CIGRE, presently serving as the President of the CIGRE U.S. National Committee. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2018 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (VASEM). Mr. Roop is a Life Member of the IEEE and a recipient of the IEEE Power Engineering Society 2014 Leadership in Power Award for industry-wide leadership. Mr. Roop is an active supporter of the Electric Infrastructure Coordinating Council Electricity Sector and is an Adjunct Professor of Practice at Virginia Tech in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He earned his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech in 1976 and is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
