LEA Support Added to SEL-700 Series Relays

A recent product enhancement has added support for low-energy analog (LEA) sensors to several SEL-700 series relays. Customers can now order LEA inputs with the following relays:

Previous product enhancements added support for an LEA input card to the SEL-751 Feeder Protection Relay and the SEL-787L Line Current Differential Relay.

Low-energy voltage sensors, Rogowski coils, and other low-power current sensors are gaining popularity in industrial applications, owing to their excellent linearity, wide-dynamic-range characteristics, reduced size, reduced weight, and enhancement of personnel safety. They are ideal for applications where space is limited.

Additional Enhancements

Along with adding LEA support, we have released several other enhancements to the SEL-787-2/-3/-4, the SEL-700BT, and the SEL-710-5.

SEL-787-2/-3/-4 Transformer Protection Relay

  • Added a negative-sequence percentage-restrained differential element (87Q) to provide protection against low-magnitude faults.
  • Extended the combined winding overcurrent elements to support combined Winding 2 and Winding 3 currents.
  • Reduced the minimum setting for the overcurrent element to 5 percent of the nominal current.
  • Enhanced the breaker failure logic by adding retrip logic, separate breaker failure trip logic, and a settable breaker failure seal-in delay setting.

SEL-700BT Motor Bus Transfer Relay

  • Added combined winding overcurrent elements.

SEL-710-5 Motor Protection Relay

  • Improved the motor start report to include exciter voltage and exciter current.
  • Added loss-of-potential check for the slip-dependent thermal model.
  • Reduced the minimum setting for the overcurrent element to 5 percent of the nominal current.

Sales Resources

We’ve created a webpage to share with your customers, and a webinar on the benefits and applications of LEA sensors will be coming soon.

Updated sales and technical presentations are in development. You’re welcome to contact product manager Sainath Anguluri for additional information about the SEL-700 series relays and this product enhancement.
