Time-Domain Relay Functions—Looking Beyond Protection

Date held: November 18, 2020
Duration: 1 hour

In April 2020, SEL engineers presented the webinars “Explore Field Experiences Using the SEL-T400L Time-Domain Line Protection” and “Fast, Secure, Dependable, and Simple—Introducing the SEL-T401L Line Relay” to discuss time-domain and phasor-based protection available in the SEL-T401L Ultra-High-Speed Line Relay. This webinar goes beyond protection functions and focuses on the additional capabilities of the recently-released SEL-T401L.

During this webinar, you will learn about:

  • High-fidelity transient recording, which allows you to analyze high-frequency transients, such as traveling waves from faults (including those related to lightning strikes), switching events, and breaker reignition.
  • Traveling-wave-based fault locating, which detects faults within one tower span and, when combined with autoreclose cancel logic, allows selective reclosing on the overhead portion of hybrid lines and inhibits reclosing on cable portions.
  • Continuous line monitoring, which detects, locates, tabulates, and alarms for incipient cable faults, discharge across dirty or damaged insulators, discharge from encroaching vegetation, and other low-energy (non-fault) events.
