LINAM UGFI

Underground Fault Indicator

Coming Soon

Streamline underground fault locating using the battery-free LINAM UGFI Underground Fault Indicator.

The rugged and submersible LINAM UGFI is fully powered by fault and load current, even with the high-visibility LED target, completely eliminating battery maintenance for the life of the product. Remote fault indication options reduce the need for maintenance personnel to enter underground or submerged vaults to check the fault indicator status.

The LINAM UGFI is easily installed on underground cables, from 0.5 to 2.6 inches (12.7 to 66.0 mm) in diameter with a single hot stick.

Adjacent Phase Immunity—The LINAM UGFI Underground Fault Indicator uses our proprietary adjacent phase immunity technology to actively reject magnetic fields from nearby cables and ensure that it correctly indicates whether a fault is on its phase.

Secure Dynamic Tripping—The UGFI fault detection algorithm automatically adapts settings to mitigate response to system inrush and backfeed conditions, helping to prevent false tripping.

Flexible Fault Detection Threshold Settings—The self-adjusting AutoRANGER 2.0 algorithm coordinates the trip threshold with a seven-day load current profile to adjust for load changes on holidays and weekends. Select from a wide range of fixed-trip-level ordering options to coordinate with specific applications.

Rugged and Submersible Design—The LINAM UGFI meets and exceeds IEEE 495 testing standards for faulted circuit indicators. It is waterproof at depths up to 15 feet. Stainless steel clamps and a rugged polycarbonate housing protect against corrosion.

Line-Powered Functionality—The fault indicator harvests fault and load current to power its microprocessor and display, reducing maintenance time and ownership costs.

Application Flexibility—Here are a few key ways the LINAM UGFI can be factory-configured to match your application needs:

  • Automatic reset can be set to occur upon restoration of load current, after a fixed time interval, or upon the first of these conditions to be met.
  • The optional auxiliary contact can connect to a remote terminal unit (RTU) to send a fault signal to a SCADA system.
  • The built-in display options include a mechanical target or an LED indicator.
  • Several remote fault indication options are available.

Pad-Mounted Enclosure Applications—Use the LINAM UGFI to identify faults in the underground cable between enclosures. The device's ability to detect switch-onto-fault (SOTF) events makes it ideal for pad-mounted transformers and three-phase switchgear.

Subsurface Applications—Apply the LINAM UGFI to underground cables within subsurface vaults and maintenance holes to identify faulted cable sections. Remote display options provide solutions for flooded environments. The RadioRANGER Interface Probe option communicates the fault indicator status to a handheld remote fault reader, eliminating the need to open or enter the vault.

High-Visibility Displays

Choose a highly reflective mechanical target display or an LED with fiber-optic port.

Extend the visibility of the fault indicator display with these remote display accessories:

  • Fiber-optic cable
  • Mechanical target display with a familiar fault indicator look and feel
  • Tamper-proof bolt display that maintains a discreet padmount exterior

Remote display cables are available in lengths of 1.83 m (6 ft), 3.66 m (12 ft), and 6.1 m (20 ft).

RadioRANGER Remote Fault Indication

The LINAM UGFI can use a magnetic RadioRANGER Interface Probe to communicate fault indicator status to the RadioRANGER Underground Wireless Fault Indication System. With this system, utility personnel can quickly and safely retrieve subsurface FCI status at street level using a handheld RadioRANGER Remote Fault Reader.

Simple SCADA Interface

Use the auxiliary output contact to send fault status through an RTU to SCADA. Output contact cables are available in lengths of 1.83 m (6 ft), 3.66 m (12 ft), and 6.1 m (20 ft).

Self-Adjusting or Fixed Trip Thresholds

AutoRANGER 2.0 automatically coordinates up to 10 different trip thresholds (25 A to 1600 A) with peak load current. The default AutoRANGER 2.0 minimum trip threshold is 25 A.

The LINAM UGFI can be ordered with a single fixed trip threshold. Available settings range from 25 A to 1600 A.

Automatic Reset Method

There are three options for automatic reset:

  • Upon restoration of load current
  • After a fixed time-interval (options range from 2 to 24 hours)
  • Upon the condition met first: current restoration or a fixed time-interval

Nominal Distribution System Frequency

  • 60 Hz
  • 50 Hz
