Adding high-impedance fault (HIF) detection capabilities to your distribution system provides a time- and cost-effective solution for limiting wildfire risk and improving public safety. Detect Downed Conductors

To reduce the risk of fire, SEL devices can detect the HIF from a downed line and quickly stop the flow of power using the following protection elements.

Arc Sense technology (AST) detects high-impedance faults that might not be detected by conventional overcurrent elements, especially in the challenging case of 4-wire systems. Dedicated event reports provide information on HIF activity for event analysis.

Sensitive earth fault (SEF) detection and sensitive directional elements provide high detection sensitivity for HIFs when there is little standing imbalance, such as on 3-wire systems.
