SEL-734W and LINAM WCS

SEL-734W and LINAM WCS

Capacitor Bank Control and Wireless Current Sensor System

Improve distribution power quality and efficiency with advanced capacitor bank control and wireless current sensing. The SEL-734W can perform time- and temperature-based switching if desired—while providing an easy upgrade path to current and reactive power-based capacitor control. The line-powered LINAM WCS is easier and safer to install than line post sensors and allows you to mount sensors closer to inductive loads.

New or Retrofit Capacitor Bank Installations

Replace your existing socket-based controls with a current-enabled solution without replacing any of the primary equipment using either the 4-jaw socket-based or terminal block interface. For new installations, select an SEL-734W with the 7-pin connector-based interface.

Time- and Temperature-Based Switching

Use the SEL-734W for time- and temperature-based switching now, and easily upgrade to advanced switching control based on power factor or VARs in the future.

Location Flexibility

Measure line current at one point of the distribution system while operating a capacitor bank at a nearby point on the system. This is ideal for situations where the capacitor bank is not near the inductive loads.

Power Quality Monitoring

Improve power quality and address customer concerns with advanced monitoring features, such as harmonic measurements, load profile trending, and voltage sag, swell, and interruption (VSSI) recording.

Ease of Installation

The lightweight current sensors install on an overhead distribution line using a single hot stick. There is no need for an outage or significant hot-line work.

Individual-Phase Switching

The full-size enclosure option enables the addition of three-phase voltage sensing via PT inputs. Combined with the existing three-phase current sensing via the LINAM wireless sensors, this gives the SEL-734W the ability to switch each phase individually.

Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)

A troubleshooting mode in the SEL-734W displays the received signal strength from the WCS on the front panel, so you can adjust the sensor location for better reception if needed.

SEL-734W and LINAM WCS  Details

LINAM WCS

The high-accuracy WCS can be installed up to 1,500 feet away from the capacitor bank. It is rated for voltages up to 38 kV, so you can standardize on one sensor type for all your capacitor bank installations. The clamp-on, line-powered design makes installation safer, quicker, and easier.

Increased Accuracy With Up to Three Sensors

Use up to three LINAM wireless sensors to measure current with ±1 percent accuracy and within a 1-degree phase angle. The SEL-734W uses the sensor data to compute reactive power, make switching decisions, and create load profiles.

Customization and Ease of Use

Use the preconfigured control templates or create custom control schemes with SELogic control equations.

System Monitoring

Use the SEL-734W and WCS system to:
  • Monitor active and reactive forward and reverse power flow.
  • Monitor harmonics up to the 15th order.
  • Trend power system conditions with up to 16 recording channels.
  • Log years of data with the load profile recorder.

Reliability

Provide power to radios, gateways, or other accessories with the integrated 40 W, 15 Vdc power supply.
