You can easily set up priority messaging with VLANs, which ensures the transmission of IEC 61850 GOOSE messages and current differential traffic to IEDs while segmenting protection, control, and automation traffic. Update settings either through a secure web interface or by importing configuration files. Using configuration files makes backup and restoration easy.
Preserve Network Integrity
Use the Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU) Guard in the SEL-2731 to prevent unauthorized network extensions. Protect client saturation with rate limiting.

Use any of the available 4,094 VLANs for switch-to-switch connections with the SEL-2731. Monitor VLAN configurations with easy-to-read graphics. Monitor the status through Syslog and the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

Integrate the SEL-2731 with leading network management systems to render network topology, RSTP states, VLAN memberships, and host addresses and locations, thanks to extensive SNMP management information base (MIB) support. Set traps to alert you when events happen on your network.
Reliable and Secure Network Engineering
Protect against unintentional or malicious device connections and cable imperfections with the media access control (MAC) security and port-monitoring features. Dynamic and static MAC security ensures only the devices you expect can connect to your network. Port monitoring watches for and disables ports when the link or communication integrity is compromised, such as in link flapping or cyclic redundancy check (CRC) packet errors, preventing them from spreading and impacting the whole network. Provide central authentication with the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) or one- or two-factor authentication with Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS).

The SEL-2731 is a transparent Precision Time Protocol (PTP) clock that supports the IEEE C37.238-2017 power system profile to ensure submicrosecond time synchronization of end devices.

Control exactly what is allowed on your network. The SEL-2731 and SEL-5056 NMS software have a deny-by-default architecture and deliver multilayer packet inspection at each hop. Only packets matching authorized communications flows are forwarded; all others are dropped or sent to your intrusion detection system. OT SDN also makes systems more cybersecure by eliminating legacy, attack-prone networking features, like MAC tables, RSTP, multicast, and broadcast.
Improve Failover Performance
Proactively engineer your network traffic with OT SDN. This solution brings more precision and predictability to critical infrastructure networks, reliably supporting even the most demanding control system signals, such as Sampled Values. Failover time is less than 100 μs—two orders of magnitude faster than what legacy networking technology can achieve. And since there are no blocked ports for RSTP, you can use all SEL-2731 ports for communications flows.
