SEL Releases Two New Solutions for High-Density Serial-to-Ethernet Communications
PULLMAN, Washington—Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) has released the SEL Port Server and SEL-2905 Serial Port Expander, two new devices that streamline serial-to-Ethernet communications in utility and industrial settings. Together, the SEL Port Server and SEL-2905 provide a scalable solution for connecting, managing and monitoring serial communications for large numbers of devices, including protective relays, radios, modems and other devices. The SEL Port Server is a rugged, high-density serial-to-Ethernet port server for utility and industrial applications. It provides secure Ethernet access for serial-connected devices and includes SEL engineering tools for configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting serial communications. Each SEL Port Server includes 16 to 48 serial ports. When paired with SEL-2905 Serial Port Expanders, a single SEL Port Server can manage up to 96 serial ports. The SEL-2905 Serial Port Expander is an accessory for SEL Port Server and SEL Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) devices. It provides a simple, scalable way to increase serial connectivity. Each SEL-2905 adds 16 software-selectable serial ports, and multiple expanders can be combined to support up to 96 serial ports from a single host device. The SEL-2905 communicates with the SEL Port Server or RTAC using a dedicated nonroutable Ethernet protocol, which eliminates the need for IP configuration and reduces the number of assets on the network. Both products are engineered, manufactured and tested for operation in harsh environments and in temperatures ranging from –40° to +85°C (–40° to +185°F). The SEL Port Server and SEL-2905 are backed by the SEL worldwide ten-year warranty and include no-cost technical support for the life of the products. To learn more about the products, visit the webpages below:
