Thirteen new IEEE PES Schweitzer Meritorious Scholars Chosen

Thirteen new IEEE PES Schweitzer Meritorious Scholars Chosen

In 2012, with a $1 million gift, SEL established the IEEE Power & Energy Society “Schweitzer Meritorious Scholar” program. Each year, several PES Scholars are recognized as "Schweitzer Meritorious Scholars." Only individuals who have already been selected as a recipient of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholarship Plus Initiative Scholarship are eligible to be considered for this recognition. These students have been chosen for this additional recognition based on their exceptional academic performance and interest in the field of power engineering. Students awarded this honor attend schools throughout the U.S. and Canada that have an interest in power and energy careers.

For the 2018-2019 academic year, 13 Schweitzer Meritorious Scholars were selected from the 174 PES Scholars being recognized. This year’s recipients include:

  • Gavin Chandler – Northeastern University
  • Nicholas Jin – George Washington University
  • Jackson Mohundro – Mississippi State University
  • Allen Morinec, Jr – Georgia Institute of Technology
  • Michelle Gehner – University of Michigan
  • Sheryl Johnson – University of Minnesota – Duluth
  • Matt Stoel – South Dakota State University

  • Celina Wilkerson – University of Denver
  • Ishaan Bhimani – University of Washington
  • Jason Cornell – Arizona State University
  • Bruce Yawn – Arizona State University
  • Brian Wu – Arizona State University

These students join the nearly 100 Schweitzer Meritorious Scholars from 2012 to date. Only individuals who have already been selected as a recipient of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholarship Plus Initiative Scholarship are eligible to be considered for this recognition. These students have been chosen for this additional recognition based on their exceptional academic performance and interest in the field of power engineering. SEL has been privileged to welcome several past scholarship recipients as employee owners.
