Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories acquires engineering firm in Colombia
PULLMAN, Wash.—Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories has acquired Sienco Energy Partners, an engineering and integration firm based in Bogota, Colombia. Sienco, a longtime customer of SEL, will transition its operations and employees to SEL during the next six months.
“Sienco and SEL have worked together for several years, and we share many of the same values,” said Julian Alzate, director of International Operations. “We are excited to welcome the Sienco team into the SEL family and to continue providing state-of-the-art solutions and services to customers throughout Colombia.”
The acquisition will further establish SEL’s presence within Colombia and Latin America. Together, the SEL and Sienco teams will establish the new SEL Colombia Regional Integration Center which will focus on engineering services and turn-key power system solutions. Regional Integration Centers enable SEL to regionalize its offerings, tailoring them for country and customer specific applications and specifications. This will be the sixth center SEL has established, with others are located in Pullman, Washington, Charlotte, North Carolina, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Campinas, Brazil and Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
“Personally, I have used SEL products for more than a decade, and since 2008 with Sienco. It has been a close and very successful relationship. SEL’s commitment to quality and innovation is unmatched,” said Ivan Reyes, Sienco general manager. “As part of the SEL team, we are excited to help strengthen our presence in Colombia by providing the best products and services.”
Sienco has 70 employees, including 30 engineers. SEL employees in Colombia will join the Sienco team at their Bogota location.
