SEL support team members in your region will work directly with you to solve the issue. Some issues can be solved without returning the unit to SEL.
If your device needs to return to the factory for diagnosis and repair, we’ll send you a return materials authorization (RMA) with further instructions.

Quality Assurance at SEL
At SEL, each employee owns responsibility for the quality of our products and services. Here are some of the ways we ensure quality:

All SEL devices and systems are designed and tested in the USA. We are the sole owner and operator of all our manufacturing facilities. Electronics manufacturing takes place in the United States, and panels are manufactured in the USA and Mexico.
The Industry’s Most Reliable Devices
Our products are designed and tested to withstand extreme environmental conditions. Whether they’re installed in a control house or a substation yard, on a line pole or a factory floor, you can be sure that your SEL devices are up to the challenge.
All SEL devices have an operating temperature range from –40° to +85°C (–40° to +185°F). An optional conformal coating is available to protect internal components against additional hazards.
Reliability Indicators Based on Field Performance
At SEL, we calculate reliability measures based on the observed field performance of our products.
Our free repair policy generates useful data that we continuously analyze to drive product and service improvements. Constant improvement is a necessary and integral part of quality at SEL because of the lives and critical infrastructure our products protect.
SEL products have a mean time between failures (MTBF) of more than 950 years.* This means that if you have 950 SEL products installed in your system, you can expect to return less than one product per year for a component or manufacturing-related defect.
Our products’ mean time between returns for repair (MTBR) is close to 400 years.** The MTBR reflects the number of unscheduled removals, not only for a defect, but also for any reason—including failure or damage due to misuse, lightning, fire, water, ice, sun exposure, chemical corrosion, wildlife, overvoltage, overcurrent, or vandalism.
No other relay manufacturer can match this reliability.
Every device that needs factory repair or replacement is counted in these reliability measures—and we never refuse returns, no matter how long the SEL product has been in service or how it failed. (If warranty service isn’t applicable, we’ll be happy to facilitate an SEL replacement purchase for you.) We analyze every returned device so that we can find the root cause of the failure and work to prevent it in the future.
