eAPP 5601-2: Advanced Event Analysis Using SynchroWAVe Event
Description
In eAPP 5601-2, students will learn how to analyze complex events using the advanced version of SEL-5601-2 synchroWAVe Event Software. They will practice their analysis skills in depth using real-world event reports from various SEL relays, seeking to diagnose the root causes and develop corrective actions.
Audience
This course is designed for anyone whose job responsibilities include analyzing relay operations, setting relays, and/or maintaining relays. In addition, anyone who works with power systems (or in another relevant field) and wants to learn about and practice complex event analysis will benefit from this course.
Agenda
- Event 1: Motor Trip During Load
- Event 2: Line Current Differential
- Event 3: Distance Protection Trip Seal-in
- Event 4: Recloser Event
- Event 5: Transformer Differential Event
Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course, students can:
- Follow the basic steps needed to analyze events.
- Use the Custom Calculations feature in synchroWAVe Event to analyze events.
- Use other features of synchroWAVe Event to enhance event analysis abilities.
- Identify the root cause of a power system event by means of event analysis.
Student Background and Knowledge
Before taking this eLearning course, we recommend that you:
- Have a basic understanding of power system protection, symmetrical components, relay logic, and protective relaying.
- Complete the following free eLearning courses:
- CBT 101: Introduction to SEL Relays (to learn how SEL relays operate)
- CBT 102: Retrieving Event Reports (to learn the basic skills needed to excel in the advanced event analysis class)
- CBT 104: Understanding SEL Relay Logic (to learn how logic correlates to trip functions)
Course Preparation
This course requires that students use the advanced version of synchroWAVe Event. If you do not already have it, a 60-day free trial period is available that includes the advanced features necessary for this course (e.g., the Custom Calculations feature and multiple events per session). When the trial period ends, the software will revert to the basic version; continued access to the advanced version will require a purchased software license.
IMPORTANT: If you are taking this course without a purchased license, SEL recommends installing synchroWAVe Event immediately prior to beginning the course to give yourself the full 60-day trial of the advanced version.
Install or update to the latest version of synchroWAVe Event.
