SEL Is Named a Best Workplace in Manufacturing and Production

PULLMAN, Wash. — Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories made Fortune’s list of the 15 Best Workplaces in Manufacturing and Production for the second year in a row.The 15 Best Workplaces in Manufacturing and Production rankings are based on feedback from  employees from U.S. manufacturing and production companies. The survey consists of 58 questions rating how frequently employees experience the attributes that make a workplace great. SEL received consistently high rankings—93 percent average—in multiple areas, including management, professional development and training, company atmosphere, benefits and rewards.“No matter what your job is, you feel like what you do means something to the other employees, management and the surrounding community,” wrote one SEL employee.

Fortune’s list not only highlights the best workplaces but also tells a larger story about modern manufacturing careers. According to the data, employees at the companies on the list are less concerned with being laid off, believe they receive a fair share of profits, and have a significantly lower turnover rate.

“As a 100 percent employee-owned company, we are empowered to put our employees first,” said SEL CEO Luis D’Acosta. “What this means for us is that we have a highly talented and engaged workforce focused on quality, innovation and customer service. It’s a model that has also proven beneficial for our company, the industries we serve and U.S. manufacturing.”

Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work Institute, echoed these sentiments in the news release announcing this year’s winners.

“The leading manufacturing and production companies know the game has changed,” Bush said. “The best workplaces in the industry know they can’t just churn out their products with warm bodies. They need to focus on attracting and retaining top talent by putting people first, in a high-trust culture. That’s how they are winning in the market."

More than 2,450 SEL employees responded to the survey. To read the full SEL review, visit http://bit.ly/1Kob30H. To learn about the 120 job openings at SEL, visit http://bit.ly/1Vlayoy.
