19-Inch Chassis Power Module
The ICON supports two redundant power modules. There are three power module options available for the 19-inch chassis: medium-voltage 24–48 Vdc with a terminal block connector, high-voltage 120–240 Vac/125–250 Vdc with a terminal block connector, or high-voltage 120–240 Vac with an IEC C6 connector for use with a line cord.
422 Sync Submodule
The 422 Sync Submodule provides one synchronous EIA-422 drop interface via an RJ45 connector for a full-duplex, synchronous 64 kbps communication signal.
- Synchronous EIA-422 interface
- Single RJ45 connector
- Single DS0 circuit per submodule (1 × 64 kbps, full-duplex)
Async Submodule
The Async Submodule provides a flexible asynchronous data interface that supports the direct connectivity of the ICON to intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). Using the Async Submodule, serial data circuits can be provisioned through the ICON’s wide-area network optical transport to provide a direct communications path between IEDs.
- Supports EIA-232, EIA-422, and EIA-485 standards with control line support
- Two RJ45 connectors
- Data rate: 110 bps to 115.2 kbps
DS1 Async Submodule
The DS1 Async Submodule provides four DS1 interfaces that can be individually mapped to other DS1 ports on DS1 Async Submodules located at other ICON sites.
- B8ZS or AMI
- Four independent DS1 circuits
- Four RJ48C connectors
Enhanced Protected Line Module (EPLM)
The EPLM provides a redundant SONET or Gigabit Ethernet line interface. It provides added reliability by ensuring that line communications are maintained in the event of a module failure or replacement.
- Internode communications links using SONET OC-3/OC-12/OC-48/1 Gigabit Ethernet line ports. Any combination of transport line rates is available on any port pair.
- Cross connections with STS-1, VT, or DS0 granularity.
- Timing output signals (IRIG-B or 1 PPS).
- LAN Ethernet support provided by a separate Ethernet Access Module or Ethernet Bridging Access Module.
- IEEE 1588 PTP Telecom Profile support when operating in Ethernet transport mode.
Remember to order SFP transceivers as needed.
Ethernet Access Module (EAM)
The EAM provides eight 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports on a full-height access module. The EAM is supported by the Protected Line Module and Enhanced Protected Line Module.
- Ethernet ports: 8 × 10/100 Mbps
- Power over Ethernet on 4 ports
- Quality of Service (QoS)
- Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) support
Ethernet Bridging Access Module (EBAM)
The EBAM provides 4 fiber and 4 copper Ethernet ports on a full-height access module. Using the EBAM fiber ports, a complete fiber-optic-based local-area network can be built within the substation, preventing ground potential rise (GPR) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues that affect data integrity.
- Ethernet ports: 4 × SFP 100/1000 Mbps, 4 × copper 10/100/1000 Mbps
- SFPs supported: single-mode and multimode, single-fiber and dual-fiber with distances from 300 m to 240 km
- Quality of Service (QoS) support
- Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) support
- 8036-02 EBAM: Includes Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and supports IEEE 1588 Power Profile (IEEE C37.238-2017)
Remember to order SFP transceivers as needed.
Nx64F Multimode Submodule
The Nx64F Multimode Submodule provides an IEEE C37.94 fiber-optic synchronous interface for connectivity with teleprotection equipment.
- Compliant with IEEE C37.94
- Data rate: 64 to 768 kbps
- Wavelength: 850 nm multimode
Nx64F Single-Mode Submodule
The Nx64F Single-Mode Submodule provides support for the new IEEE C37.94 single-mode standard. The interface provides support for up to 20 km of fiber reach.
- Compliant with IEEE C37.94
- Data rate: 64 to 768 kbps
- Wavelength: 1310 nm single-mode
Protected Line Module (PLM)
The PLM provides a redundant SONET or Gigabit Ethernet line interface. It provides added reliability by ensuring line communications are maintained in the event of a module failure or replacement.
- Internode communications links using SONET OC-3/OC-12/OC-48/1 Gigabit Ethernet line ports
- Cross connections with STS-1, VT, or DS0 granularity
- Timing output signals (IRIG-B or 1 PPS)
- LAN Ethernet support provided by a separate Ethernet Access Module
Remember to order SFP transceivers as needed.
Protected Line Module Cover
The Protected Line Module Cover is used to cover the second unused slot if only a single Protected Line Module is installed.
Quattro Module
The Quattro Module provides the interface for housing the access submodules. The Quattro Module can accommodate two DS1 modules or up to four of any mix of the following submodules: Async, Async-CB, Nx64F, 422 Sync, G.703, 4-Wire, 4-Wire Bridging, FXO, and FXS.
Server Module
The primary role of the Server Module is to provide the interface between the ICON and the SEL-5051 Network Management System (NMS) Software or third-party Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) manager. The Server Module also contains a GPS satellite receiver for network timing and for providing the real-time clock for time distribution to connected intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).
- GPS antenna connector: 1 x TNC
- IRIG-B in connector: 1 x BNC
- Network management ports: B-type USB or RJ45
