FirstEnergy Modernizes its System Through Custom RTU Panel Project
Challenge
As part of its EnergizeNJ grid upgrade project, FirstEnergy chose SEL to build custom remote terminal unit (RTU) panels equipped for SCADA communications. But the compressed timeline presented a challenge—FirstEnergy would need additional resources to complete the drawings for the RTUs. FirstEnergy has been an SEL customer for decades. “FirstEnergy always uses SEL,” said Anthony Ricci, FirstEnergy supervisor for equipment and standards. “Everything is [SEL] blue in our company.” Teams from SEL Engineering Services and SEL Panels quickly established a timeline to formalize drawings. SEL provided a comprehensive range of services to deliver the custom RTUs on schedule. The new RTU panels incorporate SEL devices to support SCADA communications, fulfilling the EnergizeNJ commitment to grid modernization.Results
