SEL Releases New Transformer Controller With LTC Control
PULLMAN, Washington—Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), a global leader in power system protection, automation and control solutions, has released a new controller for transformers that delivers thermal and voltage regulation in a single device. The SEL-2414 Transformer Automation Controller (TAC) is built on the same proven hardware as the original thermal-monitoring device and now includes functionality for load tap changer (LTC) control. It is an efficient and economical solution that extends the lifespan of transformers and optimizes power system performance. The SEL-2414 allows users to:
- Reduce energy losses and maintain bus voltages within acceptable limits.
- Optimize performance for changing load conditions, power flow directions, seasonal variations and network demands.
- Prevent transformer overloading by controlling transformers operating in parallel.
- Extend the lifespan of a transformer by using IEEE or IEC thermal modeling and cooling stage control.
