SEL Refreshes SEL-2414 Transformer Monitor and Expands Its Capabilities
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories has released numerous enhancements for the SEL-2414 Transformer Monitor, further expanding its abilities to manage and protect critical substation assets.
The SEL-2414 now supports the IEC 60076-7 thermal model, providing an alternative to its existing IEEE C57.91 thermal model. The IEC thermal model accounts for overshoot in hot spots and is more accurate with varying loads.
The monitor’s new 14-digital-input card supports load tap position and control monitoring. Using predefined I/O with the function block, users can ensure transformer output voltage is stable and that load tap changers (LTCs) are healthy.
To make using the transformer monitor easier, several new features were also developed. These include an acSELerator QuickSet SEL-5030 Software template for transformer nameplate and test data settings, SELogic templates for improved load tap change control and a list of preferred configurations for fan control. In addition, users can now upgrade firmware over Ethernet.
Two new communications protocols are now available with the SEL-2414 as well: IEC 61850 Edition 2 and the IEC 62439 Parallel Redundancy Protocol. These protocols increase flexibility for SCADA and distributed control system integration and enhance reliability for communications links.
