We solve interesting challenges
Our teams of hardware engineers design the circuitry in devices with service lives measured in decades and that operate in extreme environments to protect lives, equipment, and infrastructure. Our devices protect three-phase power systems worldwide, and we value the expertise that makes these devices possible, including circuit design, FPGA, analog design, and digital design.
We deliver high-quality products by relying on small engineering teams to create solutions and by providing the tools and resources necessary to reach our goals. Hardware engineers have the opportunity and support to work on a project from conception to completion as we design, manufacture, and test our devices onsite.
Our mission matters
Our work improves the safety and quality of life for people around the world, and that focus on community is reflected in our work environment. SEL hardware engineers work in small teams and communicate regularly with other company divisions and customers to take a product from design to completion.
Our hardware engineers support our core mission to make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical through the design and testing of devices that will protect, monitor, and control power systems for decades. We keep feedback loops short and work closely with stakeholders to continually improve every step of our design and manufacturing process.
We invest in you
Aside from offering competitive compensation packages, all SEL employees in the United States qualify for our employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) after one year of employment. As a 100 percent employee-owned company and one of Forbes’ top 10 employersin the state of Washington , SEL invests in the health, wellbeing, and happiness of all its employees. In addition to comprehensive medical and dental packages for employees and their families, we offer on-campus health clinics, childcare, and wellness facilities; a monthly education stipend; and more.
Our hardware engineering teams set realistic workload expectations and timelines that encourage work-life balance. We’re also proud to support employee leadership and participation in mission-driven groups working to grow a diverse pipeline of engineers as well as providing and improving education access.
We support your growth
As the need for electricity grows exponentially, so does our growth mindset. We empower our employees with tools—like education, training, and mentorships—to influence the direction of their career. Whether you join us at the associate or manager level, there’s ample opportunity to lead people and/or initiatives at SEL.
Hardware engineers at SEL have the opportunity to develop new skills throughout project lifecycles. We support the acquisition of technical, business, and leadership skills through mentorship and SEL University courses.
We value your time
We appreciate the dignity of work as a significant part of our lives, and we value life away from work as well. SEL employee owners achieve fulfilling careers while enjoying the benefits of where they live—like outdoor recreation or local culture and events—and pursuing their own education and personal development. Paid time off, separate from ten company holidays each year, begins to accrue on the first day of employment, ensuring we all have ample time to rest, recharge, and refocus when we need to.
