Can I view the CBT once I have completed it?

Yes. You will have one year from the date you purchased your CBT to access the material as often as you like. Once successfully completed, the course will open in Review Mode, which means that you can do everything except submit the final knowledge check score.

Can I get a PDF of the CBT?

No. CBTs are highly interactive and rich in multimedia content. There is no way to capture the course within a PDF without removing that content first.

Can I take my CBT from a tablet or smart phone?

As of right now, CBT courses require the Adobe Flash plugin. Because of this, most tablets and smart phones are incompatible with our courses. Test your Flash settings here: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/. Please note, SELU recognizes the importance of mobile learning and has made it a priority in future course development.

I can view the CBT, but none of the animations are working.

Some browsers like Safari or mobile devices block Flash content. SELU is setting things in motion to move towards delivering our courses in HTML5. Currently, the courses will open without a Flash player, but certain animations still require Flash to function. Try opening the CBT from a desktop using a different browser like Internet Explorer or Chrome, and checking that you have the latest version of Flash installed on your computer.

I have installed Flash, but I'm still having problems loading interactions.

Some browsers require users to enable the Flash plugin before allowing it to run. If you have downloaded the Flash plugin, but still cannot get an interaction within the CBT to run, try following the steps to enable Flash within your browser.

Chrome

Firefox

Internet Explorer

I clicked the link to open the evaluation page and CEU certificate at the end of the CBT, but nothing happened.

CBTs are Flash-based, and occasionally run into security problems with links. You must adjust your security settings in Flash to allow the link to work.

Internet Explorer or Firefox

  1. Right click on the CBT and select Global Settings.
  2. Select the Advanced tab and click the Trusted Location Settings button.
  3. Click Add to add a new trusted location.
  4. Type in the URL http://www2.selinc.com and click Confirm
  5. The URL should appear within the Trusted File or Folder Location list. Click Close.
  6. You must restart your browser for the changes to process. Close all Internet Explorer windows. Navigate to the knowledge check section of the CBT, click next to bypass the quiz questions and load the final slide again. Click the link and access your course evaluation, CEU request form, and certificate of completion.

Google Chrome or other Web-Based Flash Settings Managers

  1. Chrome's Flash settings are located on what looks like a web page. Click the Global Security Settings panel link at the left of the screen to open the settings manager.
  2. Click Edit locations...
  3. Click Add locations...
  4. Add in the URLs http://www2.selinc.com and http://selinc.adobeconnect.com and click Confirm.
  5. To add Executable CBTs, click Browse for folder… and browse to the location of each CBT, open it and select the index.htm file. This location is typically C:\Program Files (x86)\SEL\SELU_CBT###\index.htm. Click Confirm once the file has been selected.
  6. Once all locations have been added, close the browser and restart the CBT for the changes to process.

Executable Files

  1. Open the CBT.
  2. Right click anywhere inside of the CBT and choose Global Settings.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab and select Trusted Location Settings...
  4. A new window will pop up showing any folder or location that you have already set as a trusted location.
  5. Click Add Folder.
  6. Browse for the CBT folder. Typically this is installed within your hard drive (C: Drive), within the folder Program Files (or Program Files (x86) for some Windows users), inside the SEL folder. C:\Program Files (x86)\SEL\SELU_CBT###. Click OK once you have selected the correct folder
  7. Repeat this step for all CBTs installed on your desktop and also for the websites http://www2.selinc.com, and https://selinc.adobeconnect.com.
  8. To add websites, copy the URL (http://www2.selinc.com and https://selinc.adobeconnect.com) into the text box and select Confirm.
  9. When finished, all of the CBTs installed on your computer should be listed. Click Close and restart the CBT for the changes to process.
What is your attendance policy for awarding Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in a course?

Students must attend at least 75% of the course time to be eligible for CEUs. It may be possible to award partial CEUs, based on the assessments of the course instructors if a student is unable to attend the entire course. This determination will be based on the student’s participation and successful completion of exercises for the time the student attended.

How is the student assessed in an SEL University course?

Currently, all instructor-led SELU courses include informal assessment activities that facilitate student-instructor feedback and skill mastery. By completing hands-on activities and exercises, students can apply their knowledge or practice new skills, and can therefore measure how well they are performing. Student mastery and achievement are also continuously assessed and measured by the instructors who closely monitor student performance, assist, and answer questions during the hands-on exercises.

In absence of an instructor, computer-based training courses require completion of a final knowledge check.

Where do I find the course and hotel location information?

If this information is available, you can find it on the Course Overview page, in the “Available Courses” box. Look for the date of your course, and click the “More” button to expand the additional details.

How do I access my course or precourse material?

All course material can be accessed through your mySELU Training page, https://www.selinc.com/seluniversity/mytraining/.

I registered for a course, but it is not listed on the mySELU Training page?

Did you just enroll?
With new mySEL accounts, our various servers need to communicate with each other to verify that there are no other accounts associated with your email address. Due to server sync times, this process could occur quickly, but at its latest, may take up to 48 hours. If the course still does not appear in your mySELU Training page after 48 hours, please contact selu@selinc.com.

Did you pay with a PO?
If you paid with a PO, you must contact selu@selinc.com with your purchasing information before the course will appear in your mySELU Training page.

Did you click "Forgot your password?" on an Adobe Connect screen?
If you access course material through a bookmark or leave the course open for longer than six hours, your account will time out. When this happens it redirects you to our Adobe Connect account's login page. If you try to recover your password through Adobe, it breaks the link between it and mySEL.

Contact selu@selinc.com to have your account reset. See How do I access my course? for information on how to properly access your CBT.

Why can’t I fill out my CEU Registration Form or Certificate of Completion PDFs?

Some browsers like Firefox or Safari do not support PDF forms. In order to complete the form, you must open it in a different internet browser or through a program like Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have a program to view PDFs, you can download one for free through Adobe; https://get.adobe.com/reader/.

Update your Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat

  1. Open the program you use for PDFs, Reader or Acrobat.
  2. Click File, Help, and Check for Updates
  3. If an update is available and your current version is:
    1. Acrobat 9 and earlier, it will install automatically.
    2. Acrobat X and XI, click Update and then click Install.
    3. Acrobat DC: follow through the steps of the download wizard

Use a different browser

  1. Copy the link URL and paste it into a browser like Internet explorer. It should open the link without any problem and allow you to complete and submit your PDF through email.

Open it in Adobe Reader: Firefox users.

  1. When the PDF opens, a grey bar will show at the top of the screen with a warning that form fields are not supported. Click the button Open With Different Viewer.
  2. A window will pop up asking you to either open the PDF with another program or save the file. Both options will work.
    1. If you choose Open with, be sure that your default PDF viewing program is listed. Typically this will be Adobe Reader. If it is not listed, click the dropdown menu and select the PDF viewer of your choice.
    2. If you choose Save File, you will be able save the document and open it with whichever default PDF viewer has been set within your Window’s settings.
  3. Click OK, fill out the fields, and submit it to SELU

Open it in Adobe Reader: Safari/iPad users.

  1. The PDF will look like a blank document when you first open it. You can print the PDF and complete it by hand, or you could open it in a different program.
  2. Tap at the very top of the PDF, just under the Safari menu, to show another menu bar. Click Open in…
  3. Select Open in Adobe Acrobat (or the PDF viewer of your choice). The PDF will open. Click on each field and enter in your information, then submit to SELU.

If nothing else works, try these other suggestions from Adobe

If none of the above suggestions work, there may be additional answers found at Adobe’s PDF troubleshooting page, https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-view-pdf-web.html.

When should I access my course?

WBTs are live scheduled events, and will only be available starting 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

Will I have access to the slides to print beforehand?

Day one course slides will be provided during the test session, typically scheduled a week before the course. The test session can be accessed through the mySELU Training page.

May I have a recording of my WBT?

Sorry, at this time, WBT recordings are not made available to students.

Where do I find the scheduled times for WBTs?

You can find the time on the Course Overview page, in the “Available Courses” box. Look for the date of your course, and click the “More” button to expand the additional details. If you have already registered, the time will be shown (in Pacific Time) on your mySELU Training page.

How do I participate in a WBT from my tablet?

Most tablets are compatible with the web conferencing software used to present our WBTs. However, videos played during the course will not play without the Adobe Flash plugin. Test your tablet’s performance here: http://selinc.adobeconnect.com/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm. If you would like more information about using your tablet in our course meeting room, you can consult the following pdf: http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/adobeconnect/pdfs/mobile/acm20-gs-participants-tablet.pdf.

Are any discounts offered for courses?

Yes. Register for a scheduled paired course and/or for consecutive courses within 7 days of each other and save 10 percent.

May I reserve a spot in a course while I work out the paperwork on my end?

Sorry, we do not reserve spots in any course without payment information. Either a credit card or a purchase order (PO) must be used. If using a PO, it must be provided before the registration can be processed.

May I sign someone else up for a CBT or WBT (eLearning)?

No. The person who will access the eLearning must be the one who registers for the course. The training is available only through an individual’s mySEL account.

How can I pay for training?

SEL accepts payment by credit card, check, or purchase order. A copy of the PO must be provided for our records, as well as billing purposes, before the registration can be processed.

What if my company only pays by check, and doesn't issue purchase orders?

You may mail your registration form and the check to SELU. However, all courses are filled on a first come, first served basis, and registration is not guaranteed with this much slower form of payment. If the course is full, we will contact you with additional options.

The course I want to register for is full, do you have a waiting list?

Yes. Contact selu@selinc.com if you would like to be placed on a course’s waiting list. There is no guarantee that you will be enrolled into the course, however. Inquire into our On-Demand Training to schedule an SELU course in a time and location that meets your needs.
