The SEL-2731 Is Now Our Most Feature-Rich RSTP-Based Managed Ethernet Switch
In its second major release (R101-V0), the SEL-2731 Ethernet Switch is now our most feature-rich Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) managed switch.
This release enhances the customer-favorite design of the SEL-2731 with features that were formerly only available on the SEL-2730M Managed 24-Port Ethernet Switch, in addition to all-new features requested by our customers. This release enables remaining SEL-2730M customers to start their transition efforts to our latest generation of RSTP switches.
New Equivalent Features—This release adds the remaining features from the SEL-2730M to the SEL-2731:
- Support for static and dynamic media access control (MAC) port security to validate only that expected devices are connected to the network.
- Support for multicast MAC filtering to help shape traffic, like IEC 61850 GOOSE or Sampled Values.
- Support for displaying the MAC table to the user interface and through SNMP, improving situational awareness.
- Addition of port monitoring to protect against dirty or faulty links.
- Support for copper small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers and maintaining our high PTP transparent clock accuracy.
- Support for strict egress priority queue management, giving customers options when managing network congestion.
Going Beyond Equivalency—This release also adds new features unique to the SEL-2731:
- Support for SHA-256 when using SNMPv3, due to updated crypto algorithms.
With these additional capabilities, the SEL-2731 is now our most feature-rich RSTP managed switch, which will benefit existing customers while offering a persuasive case for new ones. Our existing customers continue to share that they love the SEL-2731 design, as it allows them to choose RSTP or operational technology (OT) software-defined networking (SDN). They also love that the switch supports field conversions. This provides our customers with a simple and cost-effective path to an OT SDN network solution.
