In WBT 421, receive live instruction from an industry expert and practical, step-by-step tutorials without leaving your office. WBT 421 is a web-delivered workshop designed to teach you how to apply dual-breaker reclosing protection with the SEL‑421 Relay for ring-bus and breaker-and-a-half transmission line configurations.

Audience

This course is for transmission protection engineers who have a basic understanding of power systems and/or experience with SEL-421 Relays.

Agenda

Day 1

  • Introduction to WBT 421 Workshop
  • Multi-Breaker Reclosing Practices
  • Dual-Breaker Reclosing Application

Day 2

  • SEL-421 Recloser Scenarios (homework review)
  • SEL-421 Recloser Settings

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, students can:

  • Integrate complete breaker protection and control for two breakers for ring-bus and breaker-and-a-half line configurations.
  • Evaluate fault scenarios to determine how the relay will respond based on the applied dual-breaker protection design.
  • Apply dynamic leader/follower breaker logic.
  • Define and implement reclosing timing based on the requirements of your protection scheme.
  • Evaluate line reclosing and independent reclosing practices.

Student Background and Knowledge

Before the class starts, we recommend that you:

  • Understand power system protection theory and application.
  • Have experience with SEL relays.
