PROT 407 and 415: Transmission Line Protection and Time-Domain Line Protection (Saudi Arabia)

Overview

PROT 407 provides an in-depth study of the methods used in designing protection systems for high-voltage power transmission lines. The course offers advanced guidelines for relay application and settings for transmission lines, including series-compensated lines. You will also learn about the application and settings of power swing blocking and out-of-step tripping functions.

PROT 415 provides an in-depth study of traveling-wave and incremental-quantity-based line protection elements and schemes. You will also learn about fault-locating methods, including the new, highly accurate methods based on traveling waves launched by faults.

Course Requirements


Prerequisites

A degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience is required. In addition, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Familiarity with transmission line characteristics.
  • A basic knowledge of protective relay design, symmetrical components, fault analysis, and power system protection.
  • Working knowledge of trigonometry, basic calculus, complex numbers, and phasor concepts.
