SEL-734B Compact Outdoor Enclosure

The compact outdoor enclosure allows you to install the SEL-734B Advanced Monitoring and Control System practically anywhere. Additionally, the enclosure contains a removable tray that allows you to easily mount a radio inside. SEL offers a variety of SEL-734B ordering options for capacitor control that come preloaded with acSELerator QuickSet SEL-5030 Software design templates. These templates are customized interfaces that allow you to configure the threshold, time-delay, alarm, warning, and communications settings for capacitor bank control.

You may elect to use the preconfigured template as-is, or you may design your own custom control scheme. SEL's capacitor bank control template improves efficiency, increases reliability, and reduces installation time and maintenance costs. Custom templates allow for greater flexibility, fitting into any smart grid application.

Overview

The SEL-734B delivers leading-edge control to any distribution system. Through accurate measurement, the SEL-734B enables precise control to improve power quality and system efficiency. The following list highlights some benefits and capabilities of the SEL-734B combined with the compact outdoor enclosure.

  • Minimize or completely eliminate extraneous cabling. The socket-based enclosures do not require any extra external cables. The Connectorized enclosure requires only one cable for all measurement and control.
  • Alert linemen with the bright red LED trouble alarm located on the bottom of the enclosure.
  • Relay instantaneous data to the ECC with an optional SEL-3060 Ethernet Radio installed in the enclosure.
  • Withstand harsh and damp environments. All circuit boards in SEL-734B Enclosures are conformally coated, free of charge.
  • Prevent vandalism. Physically secure the SEL-734B with lockable latches and protective cable sleeves, and monitor for unauthorized access with a door alarm switch.

Compact Enclosure Styles
SEL offers four compact enclosure styles: a 4-Jaw socket-based, two 6-Jaw socket-based, and a connectorized (7-pin) interface. All compact enclosures support three-pole switch control and single-phase sensing. In addition to our compact enclosures, the full-size enclosure style supports a single-pole control and three-phase sensing.

  • The 6-Jaw option A enclosure supports a single current sensor input and a neutral current sensor input. This style supports voltage, kVAR, power factor, current, and time-of-day control strategies, in addition to alarming and locking out on neutral unbalance conditions.
  • The 6-Jaw option B enclosure supports only a single current sensor input. This style supports voltage, kVAR, power factor, current, and time-of-day control strategies.
  • The 4-Jaw enclosure only uses the Control Power Transformer input and does not support any current sensor input. This style supports voltage and time-of-day control strategies.
  • The Connectorized (7-pin) enclosure supports a single current sensor input and a neutral sensor input. This style supports voltage, kVAR, power factor, current, and time-of-day control strategies, in additon to alarming and locking out on neutral unbalance conditions.

Cable Drawings and Mounting Accessories

Control and Measurement Cable

This cable connects the control power transformer, a single current sensor, and a neutral current sensor to the enclosure. The cable is available in 30- and 45-foot lengths and connects to the following equipment:

  • Control power transformer
  • One trip/close switch circuit
  • One phase current sensor
  • One neutral current sensor

Commissioning and Testing

This measurement cable with wall plug connects to a standard wall outlet or variable voltage source to power the SEL-734B.
