Wide-Area Situational Awareness—Improve visibility and understanding of the power system with time-synchronized power system measurements. Understand system stress by viewing power flows and angle differences across your entire system, and detect transient behavior that is not detected with traditional SCADA systems.

Oscillation and Disturbance Detection—Improve power system stability by investigating oscillations and disturbances detected by synchroWAVe Central. The high-resolution phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurements enable algorithms to automatically detect anomalies in the power system. synchroWAVe Central provides immediate email notification to alert engineers and operators of newly detected oscillations and disturbances. Alerts provide trends and disturbance levels in order to quickly determine the location and impact.

Power System Model Validation—Record the system response of generator trips, load shedding, remedial action scheme (RAS) operations, or other events. Visualize the Power System State


Geospatial displays, trended charts, and phasor diagrams integrated together provide real-time insight into the power system’s status. The example dashboard shows phase angle differences between key transmission substations for efficient monitoring of power system stress.

Detect Voltage Instability


Geospatial displays with voltage magnitude contours provide operators with an understanding of the power system stability at a glance. If the voltage contours are all green, it means that all bus voltages are within acceptable ranges. 


Real-time trending keeps operators informed on the current state of the system. It also provides immediate feedback for control operations taken. Seamlessly transition from real-time to historic trending in order to quickly investigate power system disturbances. 

Integrate Synchrophasors and Event Reports


Combine synchrophasor and relay event report information together in the same display to get a better understanding of how protective relay operations impact the overall performance of the power system. Relay event reports are automatically collected with acSELerator Team Software. The event reports are shown in the Event Timeline display with the circular indicators. 

Analyze Relay Operations


Engineers can further investigate power system disturbances by analyzing the relay event reports directly within synchroWAVe Central. synchroWAVe Event 2015 is launched when the relay event report indicators are selected within the Event Timeline.

Detect Phase Angle Separation


synchroWAVe Central provides islanding detection and phase angle monitoring to operators through a variety of different chart displays. The angle difference between two locations can be plotted over time in order to see historical values versus the current state in order to determine if a portion of the system is islanded. Alarms can also be configured to alert operators of angle difference conditions that may be indicators of an islanded condition. 

Determine Disturbance Impact


Analyze the frequency and the rate of change of frequency of historic events to gain a better understanding of the impact disturbances have on the power system. Frequency response data can be easily exported directly from the client for model validation.

synchroWAVe Central provides viewing and analysis of both real-time and historical synchrophasor data and allows operators and engineers to seamlessly switch between these two modes. synchroWAVe Central archives all incoming synchrophasor data, so engineers and operators can view past events on the system. This archived information helps engineers and operators determine the root cause and order of operation. Synchrophasor visualization tools provide a level of detail not possible at SCADA data rates.

Automated Oscillation and Disturbance Detection
Quickly analyze power system oscillations and disturbances automatically detected by synchroWAVe Central. For each detected oscillation and disturbance, information is provide to help operators and engineers determine the location and impact. Email notification of detected disturbances keeps everyone informed of current events on the power system.

Configurable Alarms
Configure alarms with both warning and alert thresholds. Selecting an asserted alarm provides a trend of the signal with alarm limits so operators can easily determine the current state of the system.

Geographic Map
The geographic map provides an early warning system for disturbances on the grid. Upon setup, operators can define the regions, devices, and interconnecting locations they would like displayed. The geographic map displays voltage magnitude contours in addition to angle differences and power flow between key PMU locations, providing operators and engineers with a system-wide view at a glance.

Chart Trending
synchroWAVe Central charts can display frequency, voltage, current, power, analog, and digital signals for trended analysis over time to obtain a more detailed understanding of the event. Operators and engineers can zoom in on various parameters for an in-depth view of the system response.

Quickly find similar events that meet your specified criteria. For example search for underfrequency events that have occurred over the past month to determine if there are commonalities between past events.

Export Data
Send data to others for analysis or export the data to another application. All data shown on the display can be exported using the “Data Export” button. The archived system response to a generation trip can be exported for comparison to model responses for validation. Similar analysis is possible for capacitor switching, load shedding, or other significant power system events.

Save and Share Snapshots
Save and share events of interest with colleagues for analysis at a later time. Saving and comparing similar events helps identify potential areas of weakness and hidden failure modes in the system. All snapshots are saved permanently in the database.

Role-Based Access
Authenticate and manage operator and engineer access by assigning roles. Microsoft Active Directory is supported for authentication.

Automatic Failover
Implement a fully redundant system with automatic failover to ensure that application downtime is minimized during server failures, communication failures, and software upgrades.

Phasor Scope
Compare real-time and historic phase angles across the power system easily with the phasor scope. Phase angle visibility is also valuable when synchronizing generation unit to the power system.

Event Timeline
Display relay event reports as they are collected with acSELerator Team Software for near-real-time analysis of protective relay operation. Summary information, such as the fault location and fault type, are available to the operator. Engineers can also dig deeper by analyzing the relay oscillography with the integrated synchroWAVe Event 2015 Software.
