William J. Cook

Retired from San Diego Gas & Electric

William J. Cook retired in December 2018 after 42 years of service at San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), a regulated public utility that provides safe and reliable energy service to 3.6 million customers in San Diego and southern Orange counties. SDG&E is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), a Fortune 500 energy services holding company.

During his career at SDG&E, Mr. Cook developed control and protection strategies for transmission and distribution, worked closely with the utility’s operations groups, created solutions for regulatory compliance issues, and promoted Smart Grid project development. Mr. Cook earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. He is a registered professional engineer in California and a member of IEEE. Following his retirement at SDG&E, Mr. Cook has provided consulting engineering services for Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc.
