Protect Multiple Substation Assets Using One Relay
Minimize the number of devices required to protect a substation by using a single device to provide comprehensive protection for multiple assets.
Centralized protection and control (CPC) solutions from SEL are designed around protective relays with a history of reliable operation in the field. Protect and control several assets—such as transformers, buses, lines, and feeders—using a single relay to reduce the device count in your substation and minimize related operating and maintenance costs.
Proven Hardware. Proven Technology.
A CPC solution uses a single device to perform all protection and control functions for a substation. Centralizing these functions in one device rather than in several single- or multifunction protective relays helps simplify commissioning and testing, and reducing total cost of ownership over time.SEL CPC solutions use the SEL-487E Transformer Protection Relay as the core protective device. The SEL-487E includes two differential elements as well as comprehensive feeder and distance protection, making it well suited for protecting a distribution substation using a single device.
Implement CPC With Digital Secondary Systems
Digital secondary systems (DSSs) use IEDs and digital communications to protect, monitor, and control the primary equipment in a substation. These solutions replace much of the copper wire in a substation with fiber-optic communications cable.CPC solutions can utilize IEC 61850- or SEL Time-Domain Link (TiDL)-based DSS technologies, combining the benefits of cable reduction with device consolidation. Merging units in the substation yard digitize CT and PT signals and transmit them via Ethernet over fiber-optic cables to an SEL-487E relay in the control house.
