Securing Electric Utility Infrastructure—Case Study on Asset Baselining, Threat Detection, and Response

August 14, 2019 • 11:00 a.m. (Pacific Time)
Duration: 60 min

This webinar will help build your knowledge of electric utility cybersecurity and real-world solutions. You will receive information from both SEL and Dragos, two respected sources for operational technology (OT) cybersecurity, who share a mission of protecting electric power utilities from cyber threats.

A joint SEL-Dragos solution combines components from each company’s respective areas of expertise. Dragos provides the Dragos Platform—industrial cybersecurity software that passively identifies network assets, pinpoints malicious activity, and provides step-by-step guidance to investigate incidents and respond. Dragos Midpoint Sensors run on substation-hardened SEL-3355 Computers, and the combined solution provides OT network managers with unprecedented knowledge and understanding of their assets and activity.

In the webinar, we’ll present a utility case study that shows how the SEL-Dragos solution can help you address key cybersecurity challenges, including:

  • Asset management.
  • NERC CIP compliance.
  • Event detection with limited security resources.
  • Limited knowledge of OT cyber threats.

Tim Watkins
Tim Watkins (SEL)

CISSP, CompTIA Security+

Tim Watkins graduated with an MSA in Leadership from Central Michigan in 2010 and at the top of his class in a masters-level Telecommunications and Systems Engineer course from Fort Gordon in 2004. Following 20 years of DoD experience in information technology, weapons systems, communications infrastructure planning, cybersecurity, and leading Marines, Tim joined Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) as an application engineer in 2013. He was promoted to lead application engineer in 2017. Tim is focused on system solutions that allow customers to have greater visibility to mitigate and respond to detected events within their control systems. Ultimately, his efforts will reduce risk, increase resilience, and mature SEL’s best practices.
