Implement electric power generation solutions that protect critical assets, increase visibility and control, and seamlessly integrate with the power grid—at any scale.
In a power generation industry that is rapidly becoming more diverse, power producers need reliable, adaptable solutions. Whether you’re operating at the industrial, commercial, or utility scale with traditional or inverter-based sources, SEL solutions ensure the seamless integration and optimal performance of generating units, balance-of-plant equipment, and islanded or grid-connected power generation systems.
Deploy Innovative, Reliable Generation Solutions
With a track record of over 40 years, SEL technology is trusted by utilities around the world. These solutions are built on the capabilities of the devices we manufacture, which endure temperature ranges as wide as –40° to +85°C (–40° to +185°F) and exceed industry standards in withstanding harsh conditions, such as humidity, corrosion, shock, electric stress, and electromagnetic interference.Explore our key offerings:
Generation protection—Comprehensive generator and generator step-up (GSU) unit protection, including options for stator and field ground, as well as protection and control for unique applications like pumped storage.
Automation, control, and monitoring—Solutions for generator control and automation, asset monitoring, and predictive maintenance that support individual units and large plants.
Renewables and distributed generation—Solutions that optimize the resiliency and availability of distributed energy resources, including inverter-based resources, in support of both grid-connected and islanded operations.
Services—We work with you to design and implement customized turnkey solutions at any scale.
Data from decades of field performance verify that SEL devices minimize the need for repairs and replacements, making your systems more reliable and lowering the lifetime cost of ownership.
Customer Highlight
Belgium Integrates Offshore Wind Power Into European Grid
Integrating offshore wind energy into the European grid posed a new type of challenge for Elia, Belgium’s high-voltage transmission system operator. They partnered with SEL on a customized grid integration solution: a special protection scheme enhanced with software-defined networking (SDN).
“We picked Schweitzer Engineering for two reasons. They proposed the best solution with very technologically advanced relays … [and because] they had done comparable SPS projects in other countries, such as Georgia and Uruguay, with very good results.”
