Mine Ensures System Stability With Power Management Solution

In response to recurring blackouts, a fully islanded mining operation implemented an SEL powerMAX Power Management and Control System. During subsequent overcurrent events, the powerMAX system limited the disturbance to a temporary 2 percent reduction in throughput and provided full visibility of the operating parameters. Operators noted that the cost of a single total blackout—including damaged equipment and lost production—would have exceeded the cost of the powerMAX system.
