SEL VP of R&D Normann Fischer Elevated to IEEE Fellow
SEL Vice President of Research & Development Normann Fischer has received one of the highest distinctions granted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He's been named part of the 2024 Class of IEEE Fellows. Dr. Fischer is receiving this honor because of his contributions to fault protection methodologies for electric power grids, according to IEEE President and CEO Saifur Rahman.
The IEEE is the largest organization of technical professionals dedicated to advancing electronic technology in the world. The organization has more than 427,000 members in 190 countries.
The “Fellow” title is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members of extraordinary accomplishment in any of the IEEE fields of interest, which include electronics & communication engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, and computer engineering. Each year, the IEEE board of directors evaluate and votes on members nominated for this honor. The title is given to only 0.1% percent of the members.
“Normann has a long history of inventing new and innovative ways to protect power systems around the world," said SEL CEO Dave Whitehead. “This is a great honor that recognizes his many accomplishments.”
Dr. Fischer joined SEL in 1999 as a principal engineer and has served in a variety of roles and led numerous teams focused on product development. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical and electronics engineering and a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Idaho. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Cape Town. He holds more than 30 patents and has authored more than 80 technical papers.
