SEL Chief Engineering Services Officer Bob Morris has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Montana Tech. The award recognizes the achievements of alumni who have brought outstanding recognition and distinction to themselves and their alma mater.
"I am truly honored to receive this award," said Morris. "My grandparents immigrated from Ireland to mine Butte's copper and pursue the American dream. I benefited from their hard work and was the first generation in my family to attend college. Montana Tech provided me with the fundamentals to enjoy a very rewarding engineering career. To now help the university grow an Electric Power Program brings it all full circle -- I'm able to give back to the college that did so much for me."
Morris graduated from Montana Tech in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysical Engineering. In 1991, he earned a Master of Electrical Science.
Morris has actively championed his alma mater at SEL over the years by actively encouraging Montana Tech student internships and hires, and working to establish SEL offices in Montana.
In 2019, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory announced it will donate $1.5 million to fund the construction of two power-systems laboratories on Montana Tech’s campus. The University will begin construction on the project in June 2019.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is awarded to alums who have received an associates or higher degree from Montana Tech and have established a professional career of at least 20 years. The award was presented to Morris at Montana Tech’s Commencement ceremonies on May 4, 2019 in Butte, MT.
