Enhancements to several SEL fiber-optic transceiver models simplify installation

SEL has redesigned several multimode serial fiber-optic transceiver models to meet new CE requirements and make them easier to install and use.
As part of the redesign (and per customer request), SEL added transmit, receive, and power LED indicators to the SEL-2810 (IRIG-B), SEL-2812 (IRIG-B), and SEL-2814 (hardware flow control) transceivers. These LED indicators make it easier to ensure the device is correctly installed and functioning.
Additionally, SEL reduced the SEL-2894 interface converter power requirements from 300 mA to just under 15 mA. This means that the SEL-2894 can receive power from the data lines and an external power source is no longer required.
The SEL-2810, SEL-2812, SEL-2814, and SEL-2894 also now meet the more stringent standards and requirements for the CE mark and are once again available in European Union countries.
Fiber-optic transceivers allow power system operators to improve safety, signal integrity, and reliability by using optical fibers instead of wire to transfer control signals. To learn more about these devices, and compare models visit the Transceiver and Interface Converter Features page.
