Upgrading RTUs Can Be Easy—New Video Shows How
SEL recently worked with Pend Oreille Public Utility District (PUD), an electric and water utility in Northeast Washington State, to upgrade an aging communications system with a simple and affordable solution.
Pend Oreille PUD began planning for an upgrade after their I/O boards started showing signs of failure. They understood that this could mean replacing all their field wiring, which would be difficult and time-intensive. SEL developed a custom cabling solution that allowed them to maintain the field wiring while exchanging their aging remote terminal unit (RTU) for an SEL Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) and replacing their old I/O equipment with the SEL Axion.
This video describes the communications solution and how Pend Oreille PUD is benefiting from improved built-in security, data integration and power system health visibility.
