Opening in 2023
In 2023, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) will open a 162,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on Highway 95 in Moscow, Idaho. The building will be home to a state-of-the-art plant for fabricating printed circuit boards (PCBs)—vital parts of the products SEL manufactures to protect, monitor, control, and automate electric power systems.
“This will be the most modern, environmentally friendly, and safe printed circuit board manufacturing facility in the United States—maybe the world,” said Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer, III, SEL president and chief technology officer. “This is great for our employee owners, our customers, our community, and the environment. It also represents opportunity for us all.”

The SEL Moscow project made great progress in 2022. With exterior construction complete, teams are focused on the parking lot, signage, exterior lighting, and initial landscaping. Inside the facility, crews are completing work on the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems and working to install and test manufacturing equipment.
February 2022
Last fall, over the course of one month, 40 truckloads carrying 500 tons of steel began arriving on the Moscow site. After just 3.5 months of installation (including several days of snowfall), the building now has two distinct floors and a roof.

The walls are up for the new printed circuit board factory! This nine-day process began on September 29 and is a major milestone for SEL and the construction team. Constructing these walls took 1,517 yards of concrete, and each panel weighs between 30,000 and 100,000 lb!
August 2021
SEL received approval for all the major construction permits, including the mass grading, footings, and foundations and the full building permit for the structure. Crews are busy installing underground water lines, building concrete forms, and installing perimeter footings. On August 11, Spokane-based Divcon, Inc., poured 29,000 square feet of concrete to form the manufacturing floor. The crew began the pour at 3:00 a.m. to beat forecasted 100-degree heat.
