The Blueframe application platform is an embedded container-based operational technology (OT) system for operating SEL Blueframe-enabled applications. Designed to manage and exchange data seamlessly between supported applications, Blueframe runs on our secure OS that minimizes the attack surface and includes several security measures, like allow listing, to prevent unauthorized access and attacks. Scalable and customizable, Blueframe can be deployed on SEL computing platforms (SEL-3350, SEL-3355, and SEL-3360) or virtualized on other server-grade hardware through a contract agreement. For more information about virtual deployments, contact your local support.
Secure—Employ secure methods to share information between applications. Blueframe applications can only access the data they are permitted to retrieve. Efficient and restricted data exchange allows each application to specialize and provide value-added services to the overall solution.
Flexible—Tailor your system with the applications and hardware you need. Choose from SEL computing platforms to get the hardware that best fits your requirements and budget, or deploy Blueframe in a virtual environment with a contract agreement.
Versatile—Simplify and centralize user access permissions, security parameters, and IED data management with a single, user-friendly, consolidated interface to perform different tasks based on the applications deployed. Blueframe also enables you to customize the system functionality by adding more modular applications.
Scalable—Support installations of any size with an economical solution for both small and large systems. Change the applications to accommodate your system’s evolving needs. You can also readily scale from one or two targeted applications to multiple application suites.
The Blueframe application platform is part of SEL’s modular application environment. This system consists of:
Applications within Blueframe inherit the permissions and roles assigned to them. This means user access can be defined on a need-to-know basis.
The intuitive interface facilitates user preferences and enables you to quickly find and manage content.
Use these tools to define Blueframe system configuration and manage user interactions.
Blueframe container-based applications are designed to be modular to perform specific functions. They seamlessly and securely share common information throughout the platform using automation and smart data subscriptions to save you configuration time and effort.
View application packages, their installed version, and the package status for all presently uploaded packages.
Control your versions, verify services, and queue package upgrades for installation at a convenient time from one location in the platform.
Apply custom user roles for permissions management and application access permissions.
Easily add or remove users from each group.
Define access to applications on a per-role basis.
Tie your users and roles from the Lightweight Directory Authentication Protocol (LDAP) into your Blueframe system for streamlined user management.
Blueframe supports encrypted connections to obtain a trusted connection between the web server and web client. Generate and import certificates for use with Blueframe.
From one location, quickly assess changes and interactions to the Blueframe system that could have security impacts.
Define Blueframe network information and manage operating system upgrades and time synchronization.
Understand how the changes you make to your Blueframe system impact overall performance.
Information defined in Resource Management can be used seamlessly throughout Blueframe by installed applications.
Resources can have one or many defined connections that can be used by installed applications throughout the system.
Securely connect to individual field devices through permission-based access sessions with this Blueframe management tool. View device-specific data and settings, issue commands, download files, and more with a secure, remote engineering access interface.
Define groups to receive automatic email notifications for various Blueframe applications.
Blueframe applications are designed to be modular. Each application achieves a specific purpose, yet they all share common data using smart data subscriptions throughout the platform to save you time and effort. Click the links below to learn more about the supported Blueframe applications.
Data Management and Automation (DMA)Blueframe runs on powerful and reliable SEL computing platforms that ensure system availability in the most demanding applications and environments. Select the right hardware for your application by choosing from models that offer a variety of processing power options, drives, memory modules, expansion capabilities, and form factors. Blueframe and its specialized applications come embedded in your chosen computing platform.
Blueframe can also be deployed virtually on other server-grade hardware through a contract agreement. For more information about virtual deployments and minimum hardware requirements, contact your local support.

Sales Resource CentralAvailable on the Blueframe platform, DMA applications automatically collect, store, and manage device-specific information like oscillography, Sequence of Events (SOE) data, device settings, and property information. They also provide automated password rotation and streamlined device audits.
