General Data Protection Regulation Statement

Information Collection and Use

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) values your right to privacy and takes care to keep your personal and company information safe, secure, and confidential.

How We Protect Your Information

SEL's core values drive the way we view our community, industry, company, and environment. These guiding principles continue to foster a deep commitment to security and process improvement, as they have since the first product was manufactured in 1984. We take the security of all the data we hold very seriously. Our data security processes and rigorous training programs are aligned with internationally recognized security standards. We regularly review the effectiveness of the measures we have in place to keep the data we hold secure.

Why and How We Share Your Information

We service customers across the globe, and we use third parties in the United States and elsewhere to help us operate our business. As a result, personal data may be transferred outside the countries where we and our customers are located. Our websites do not collect or compile personal data for dissemination or sale to outside parties for consumer marketing purposes, nor do we send email on behalf of third parties. We will only share personal data with others when we are legally permitted to do so. We retain personal data for as long as necessary to provide services and fulfill transactions you have requested or for other essential purposes, such as complying with our legal obligations, maintaining business and financial records, resolving disputes, maintaining security, detecting and preventing fraud and abuse, and enforcing our agreements.

When we share data with others, we ensure contractual arrangements and security mechanisms are in place to protect the data and to comply with our own security standards. Data may be transferred to countries outside the European Union (EU) and to countries that do not have laws that provide specific protection for personal data. We will take steps to ensure all personal data are provided with adequate protection and that all transfers of personal data outside the EU are done lawfully. When we transfer personal data outside the EU to a country not designated by the European Commission as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data, the transfers will occur under an agreement that covers the EU requirements for the transfer of personal data outside the EU, such as the European Commission-approved standard contractual clauses.

Personal data held by us may be transferred to:

  • Third-party enterprises that provide information technology (IT) and other services to us. We use these companies to assist us in our business operations and to help manage and secure our internal IT systems. As an example, these third parties provide identity management services, website hosting, data analysis, security, or other services. Many of these services operate from secure data centers in the United States and elsewhere, and personal data may be stored in any one of them.
  • Audit and advisory firms.
  • Law enforcement or other government and regulatory agencies as required or permitted by applicable law, regulation, or court order.
  • Third-party enterprises that assist us in the sales and product support processes.
